  • The happenings that took place at this time was the fulfillment of the prophecy that was given by Isaiah in the Old Testament.
  • When it comes to scripture (particularly prophecy) there is a near fulfillment and a far (distant) fulfillment.
  • Emmanuel = God with us.
  • How is God with us? Why is God with us?
    • God is with us to comfort.
      • Joshua 1:5,9
      • God is with us past, present, and future.
        • He was with Israel when He worked through Moses; now that Moses is gone, He is still with them. He will not leave them or forsake them in the future.
      • Command = give an authoritative order.
      • Dismayed = to break down the courage of completely as by sudden danger or trouble; dishearten thoroughly.
        • Not to crack under pressure.
      • You can rest in the fact that God is with you wherever you go.
      • He strengthens our resolves, encourages our hearts, and calms our fears.
        • To comfort and protect us … (Psalm 23:4 … rod and staff).
    • God is with us to the end.
      • Matthew 28:20
        • This is Matthew’s account of the Great Commission.
        • The comforting thing was that Jesus told them He would be with them until the end of the age.
      • There is never a time God is not with you; you have the very one with you that can solve all your problems.
      • He is with us in the day of judgement.
      • He came to us, why not come to Him. Give Him your life.
