Pastor Timothy L. Dortch
Subject: “Convicted But Not Converted”
Primary Scripture Reference(s): Acts 24: 24-27
Sermon Notes and Nuggets
- Verse 22
- After Felix heard Paul’s defense, he knew enough to go ahead and make a decision (accurate knowledge of the way).
- Felix’s wife = Drusilla = also a Jew.
- Acts 12:2
- Paul discussed:
- Righteousness = the idea of staying between the lines.
- Temperance (self-control) = examples: pulling the reins of a horse.
- thoughts become actions, actions become habits, and habits become character, if left unchecked.
- We need to “pull the reins” on or practice self-control when it comes to our attitude, appetites, and actions.
- Judgement to come = there is a time when all of use will have to give an account of our deeds on earth, whether good or bad.
- For Felix to become afraid, he had to understand what Paul was saying.
- Felix was reminded of his own immorality when Paul began to talk about unrighteousness.
- Felix was afraid, but fear was not enough.
- Some people don’t mind you discussing the Bible as long as it doesn’t get too personal.
- That’s what the gospel is about… God’s power to change lives.
- Convicted = convinced that you are in error and compelled to admit the truth.
- Converted = change in form, character, or function; to change completely in form or nature.
- Renew your mind DAILY!
- Although sometimes you may not “feel” saved, it’s not in a “feeling,” but it’s in a knowing.
- Change is not change, until you change.
