Primary Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 12:12-26
Sermon Notes/Nuggets
- We are one but we are many.
- Verses 12-14
- Paul uses the illustration of the human body to explain how we work as a community of believers.
- Every cell in the human body is linked by a common root or DNA.
- We are one by the Spirit.
- We are different but we are still included.
- Verses 15-20
- Psalm 139
- We are a designer’s original.
- Diversity does not disqualify a person from being a part of the body.
- There are some people that are in Christ that do not feel as if they are a part of the body.
- The same principle can be applied to those who want to exclude persons from being a part of the body. They do this because they don’t really appreciate their own part in the body.
- It is possible to be one without being the same.
- Diversity is not only necessary, but it is essential for the body to function effectively.
- God is not so much concerned with how busy we are. He is more concerned with how effective we are.
- We must move beyond being people pleasers.
- Each part is serving the purpose of the one that designed it.
- We can see the wisdom of the designer in the design itself.
- Everybody has something, but nobody has everything.
- We are different but still important.
- Verses 21-26
- If you are a part of the body of Christ, you are important to God and to the body.
- Hidden and unglamorous parts … God knows how to bestow honor on them.
- The time has come to favor Zion.
- Schism = division.
- The members should have the same care for one another.
- The parts of the body work together.
- The parts of the body just don’t serve themselves, they serve (feed and defend) the whole body.
- We need to have a heart toward our fellow members.
